Because I Need Goals

It's hard for me to remember if I've said this before (since I've said sooo much nonsense here) but I'm a goal oriented person.  I can kick some ass and take some names (sometimes very few names) if I'm motivated to do something but put no clear goal in front of me and I turn into a steaming pile of suck who drinks a tad too much.  Put some idiotic goal in front of me though and viola! I'm motivated focused.  This is why I'm thinking of doing this race next weekend.  A running race?  For reals?  That's right ladies and gentlemen, I'm 95.3% sure I'll be doing a 13 mile trail running race next weekend.  Let's just pretend to forget that I have never run anywhere close to 13 miles before.  Back in the day, when I was a bowl cut wearing high school not quite but almost stud, I ran track.  In those days I could do 5-6 miles without too much trouble but I was young and stupid.  Now, I'm almost 20 years older and still stupid so I think I can pull it off.

Up til now, my run training regimen has consisted of 2-3 mile trail runs three or so days a week so it shouldn't be too hard to tack on another 10.  Of course, my normal trail runs involve a lot of stopping to call the dog back so maybe I should take the mutt so I have an excuse to stop often?

Who really cares though if I stink up the joint and walk half of the race.  The important thing is that I now have something to train for.  Too bad it was raining this morning.  I'm motivated but not MOTIVATED!
